Lebanon was facing during that time negative economic growth rates, unstable currency, unpaid public sector salaries, a turbulent political and social situation and an even bigger gap in public services due to a reduced tax base which is endangering the stability of our communities. Our government, yet again, has failed to protect its people.
Extreme hunger and malnutrition remain a barrier to sustainable development and creates a trap from which people cannot easily escape. Hunger and malnutrition mean less productive individuals, who are more prone to disease and thus often unable to earn more and improve their livelihoods.
Hence, we joined forces with Chef Tarek Alameddine coming from Copenhagen to cater the underserved people of Tripoli. Lebanon 2.0 team members volunteered to package the meals and dispatch the meals while Chef Tarek alongside the help of Chef Sarah-Joe Geara who came from France cooked lentil stew with meat as well as Chicken and Rice.
One thousand five hundred citizens from Tripoli enjoyed a warm meal in an environment free of discrimination and prejudice which made a difference even for only one day. This may be their only warm meal for the day as many have stated.
